Variations on a Fabric

A while ago, Spoonflower had a contest to create a Hawaiian ‘cheater’ quilt design, and I wrote about my design here and about the wall quilt I made from the fabric here.

Here’s the original design, using the turtles and flowers of Kauai.

I did the design in a few different colors:

I really like the elements in the original design, but a one-yard, non-repeating design is a bit limiting in its usefulness.  Using the same elements–turtles, flowers and leaves–I rearranged them into a repeating design.

This shows one unit of the repeat.

And here’s the design in repeat and in different colorways.  (Note that the glitches in the repeat are due to my haste in copying/pasting the design from Illustrator to Photoshop for use in this post.)

Then I figured a stripe would go with the other designs, so here’s the stripe pattern.

x

And here it is in repeat and different colorways.

And, a pattern using just the turtles:

In different colorways, with a diagonal stripe.

And different colorways with a vertical stripe.

Here’s the indigo and white version of are several of the designs.

And several designs in the blue colorway.

My friends on the mainland think just because I live in Hawaii, I live in paradise. Like a permanent vacation. We’re all just out here sipping Mai Tais, shaking our hips, and catching waves. Are they insane?
